What is a fluid? Can we even say "a" fluid? Fluid comes from flow but it is important to not mix up fluid with liquid because the air also flows through the air conditioning ducts at home and it's not liquid. Fluid is simply any substance that takes the shape of its container. Therefore, it can be liquid, gas, or plasma, although, there is differences between them. Here I am going to stick with liquid and gas because those are the stuff that we deal with normally. Gas can be compressed but you won't be able to compress liquid. Both fluid, but a major contrast between them!
Fluid mechanics is the physics that deals with fluids, so it does not have anything to do with rigid bodies or anything that does not take the shape of its container, like a nail, a person, or the statue of Buddha!
